Fire Tech students and Honors World History students pose in front of the BH Fire engine

“In [World History Honors] we learned about the Gun Powder Plot, an attempt by Catholics in England in 1604 to blow up James I and Parliament which were made up of all Protestants. Guy Fawkes, not the leader but who became the face of the attempt was caught and all his conspirators were hunted down and/or tortured and executed. For many years the Monarchy celebrated this day (Nov 5) as a day of victory over rebellion. But over time, Guy Fawkes day (sometimes called Bonfire Night) became a celebration of the group of men fighting for their freedom of religion. Today in the UK they celebrate it with fireworks, and building large doll versions of Guy Fawkes and burning them.  Students in class made the dolls as an extra credit assignment, 14 in total, and Fire Tech agreed to do a safe reenactment of the burning of the dolls. Kids loved it!”
